Purpose
Present study was aimed to define possibilities of computer tomography (CT) for diagnosis in patients with traumatic and iatrogenic injuries of heart,
aorta and pulmonary vessels
Methods and Materials
We analyzed clinical CT outcomes of 89 patients which have been treated during the period 2013-2015.
Age range was 4 months to 59 years.
All patients referred to the Admission Department for suspected traumatic or iatrogenic injuries of chest organs including heart and mediastinal vessels.
We performed all investigation on Siemens Somatom sensation open 40,
Somatom sensation 64,
Definition As 128,
Definition Flash 256 devices.
All examinations were performed in native view and with bolus dosing of contrast agents.
Reconstructions were 0.6 – 2 mm.
Results
We selected 89 patients with chest injuries,
of those 29 patients demonstrated traumas of great vessels or heart:
• 6 - pneumopericardium;
• 5 - hemopneumopericardium;
• 4 - heart dislocation with rupture of diaphragm;
• 2 - rupture of Ао with false aneurysm;
• 1 - descending Ao rupture;
• 1 - Ao intima detachment;
• 1 – traumatic RASubclavia;
• 4 - foreign bodies in the pericardial cavity and RV,
SVC and RA,
RASubclavia;
• 2 - air in the cardiac chambers.
•...
Conclusion
Computer tomography is a highly informative and non-invasive means for urgent diagnosis and precise localization of cardiac,
aortic and vascular injuries either of traumatic or iatrogenic genesis.
This technique shows positive influence on postoperative management and improved disease prognosis.
