Purpose
Currently,
the research of the relationship of calcification of the coronary and carotid arteries is presented in many studies.
Despite this,
still remains unresolved question of the correlation of the severity of coronary lesions with stenosis of the carotid arteries.
Some authors point to the existence of this relationship,
as well as increase the risk of fatal cerebrovascular accidents.
Also narrowing of the carotid arteries is often regarded as a predictor of adverse cardiovascular prognosis.
But,
apart from this,
there is also the view of...
Methods and Materials
251 male patients aged from 43 to 72 years (mean age 60.56 ± 8.7lyear).
The criterion for inclusion in the study was coronary heart diseases (CHD) and the presence verified multifocal atherosclerosis.
Multifocal atherosclerosis,
it is a loss of two or more vascular beds.
The diagnosis of multifocal atherosclerosis was established on the basis of studying complaints,
anamnesis,
objective and instrumental examination. To determine the effect of diabetes mellitus type 2 atherocalcinosis patients were divided to two groups based on the presence / absence of the...
Results
The presence of calcification of the carotid arteries in 98% of patients of the Group I and only in 57.5% of the Group II.
Localization calcified plaques in all cases consistent with the bifurcation of the common carotid artery and proximal segment of the internal carotid artery.
Defeat carotid arteries on both sides in the Group I noted in 92.2% of patients,
while in Group II was determined by a bilateral lesion in 74.7% of patients.
CS of the carotid arteries was 249.4 [96.5; 659.7]...
Conclusion
Prevalence of calcification of the carotid arteries in patients with diabetes was significantly greater as a whole and by engagement of both carotid arteries.
The estimated density of the calcinated of the atherosclerotic plaques of carotid arteries in patients with CHD with type 2 diabetes mellitus lower,
which indirectly indicates their potential instability.
