Purpose
To correlate the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) value of cancer parotid with morphologic and histologic prognostic factors.
Methods and Materials
Patient populations:Retrospective study 31 patients with cancer parotid19 M, 12 F mean age is 61ys.MR Examination:MR unit (1.5 tesla) with EPI.Routine MR (T1,T2WI).Diffusion weighted MR imaging.Post contrast fat suppressed T1WI.MR imaging techniqueDiffusion MR imaging:Single shot spin echo EPI.TR:10000 ms & TE: 108 ms.B value: 0, 500,1000sec/mm2.ADC map was reconstructed.Scan time 1 min.Post contrast T1WI:Fat suppressed with inject of 0.1ml /Kg.Image analysisQuantitative assessment of ADC value:ROI was drawn around parotid tumor.Mean ADC value was calculated.Final diagnosisPathological examination: Tru cut biopsy or surgery were done for all...
Results
The mean ADC value of parotid cancer 1.17±0.12X 10-3 mm2/sec.There was significant different in the ADC value between non and well differentiated tumors (P<0.003), small and large sized tumor (P=0.003) and insignificant difference in the ADC value between different histopathological types (p=0.07).The ADC value of parotid cancer correlated with the size of tumor (P<0.002) and tumor grade (P<0.04).
Conclusion
Apparent diffusion coefficient value of thyroid cancer is a new prognostic parameter of cancer parotid that correlated well with morphologic and histologic prognostic parameters.
