Learning objectives
The purpose of this exhibit is:
1.
To learn physiology of pregnancy focusing on diagnostic imagings of
mother’s body change in pregnancy.
2.
To understand strategy of diagnostic imagings in pregnant patients.
3.To know all acute abdomen requiring urgent surgical treatment in
pregnant patients.
Background
Acute abdomen during pregnancy can be caused by a wide variety of diseases(fig.1).
Some of which require urgent surgical treatments,
so early and accurate diagnosis should be needed.
In some cases,
US imagings may be useful in diagnosis,
however MRI and/or CT may be more useful in many cases.
The clinical diagnosis of intraabdominal disease in pregnant women is often obscured by concurrent maternal physiologic and anatomic changes.
We have to know accurate normal anatomy and precise diagnostic imagings of eath disorders.
Some causes are...
Imaging findings OR Procedure details
1.The body changes in pregnancy at MR imaging
Before interpreting images for pathologic findings in the pregnant patient,
it is necessary to understand the normal anatomy of the pregnant pelvis at multiplanar MR imaging and pregnancy associated anatomic changes.
The first trimesters
The uterus maintains its normal version and flexion(fig.2-a).
The bladder lies immediately anterior and inferior to the uterus.
The vagina is posterior to the bladder and urethra and anterior to the rectum and anus.
The ovaries lie within the pelvis lateral to the...
Conclusion
Acute abdomen during pregnancy requires early and accurate diagnosis that takes into account the changes of mothers body and influences of fetus.
Many factors including strategy of diagnostic imagings may be also useful to make a diagnosis for urgent surgical treatment.
