Purpose
The aim of our study is to present the results of cerebral aneurysm embolizations with the use of hydrogel coils.
In this poster we wanted to prove the effectiveness of this procedures which take very important role in modern interventional radiology.
Methods and Materials
Aneurysms pathophysiology is associated with hemodynamic stresses and inflammation of the blood vessels.
The main changes present in the wall of the vessels are: thinning of the media,
decrease of the vascular smooth muscle cells and the loss of collagen synthesis.
All of these factors induce the wall weakness which is the direct cause of aneurysms formation.
Arterial bifurcations are the most frequent locations of cerebral aneurysms.
The following imagine shows aneurysms most common placements in the Circle of Willis

MONTREAL SCALE
The main problem that can appear after an embolization is recurrence of an aneurysm.
The chance of recanalization grows when the coil density is not sufficient to induce a complete flow stasis and thrombus formation in the sac of an aneurysm.
To check the effectiveness of the procedure we used Montreal scale.
Analyzing post-treatment angiograms directly after the procedure of embolization,
we checked the degree of aneurysms occlusion.
In our study 76% of the patients that underwent the procedure achieved a complete obliteration...
Conclusion
Summing up,
endovascular embolization with the use of hydrogel coils is an effective treatment of cerebral aneurysms.
Although we can not forget that the procedure is not free from complications.
The most dangerous one,
aneurysm rapture,
occurred in only two cases,
and the most common,
vascular spasm,
did not result in canceling the embolization in any case.
An important advantage of endovascular embolization is a short period of hospitalization (about 5 days) which is much shorter than that ofsurgical clipping.
Moreover the general state of...
