Learning objectives
- Review cases of sports-related muscle injuries and their MRI findings
- Show illlustrative cases of the most common injuries
- Correlate with current literature
Background
Maybe in the last thirty years,
the number of people that have been practicing sports has increased in number and in frequency of the activities,
including sports like walking,
running,
swimming,
and of course,
playing soccer,
the most important sport in Brazil.
If the number of practioners have increased,
the number of sports-related injuries went in the same direction,
including all tissues,
like bones,
tendons,
or muscles,
for example.
Every week,
we have scanned an increasingly number of people submitted to Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)...
Findings and procedure details
All exams were proceed in Magnetic Resonance Imaging machines with 1.5T (Espree and Avanto,
Simens®,Marburg,
Germany) and the image analysis were made in proper workstations (Dell® Texas,
USA).

Conclusion
Sports-related injuries are getting more prevalent,
because the amount of people that are practicing sports activities,
and the frequency that they do it during the week.
In our evaluation,
we have seen almost all musculoskeletal injuries,
especially muscles lesions.
The cases shown in our pictorial essay are characteristic of muscle strains,
including examples of each degree (I,
II and III) as listed in background section.
The images shown is this study were correlate with current articles and radiology literature,
and are similar to the classic...
