Aims and objectives
Acute cowperitis (AC) is acute inflammation Cowper’s glands (CG).
AC is a poorly understood disease that occurs as an acute urethritis or prostatitis [1- 4].
Diagnosis of AC can be difficult.
Purpose.
To study clinical and sonographic manifestations of AC in adults.
Methods and materials
Clinical,
laboratory and ultrasound CG were performed in 125 patients with acute prostatitis.
Ultrasound CG was performed using a rectal probe 6 to 9 MHz and a linear sensor 6 to 16 MHz.
Results
АC was detected in 26 (21%) patients.
Non-destructive form of AC was in 25 (20%) and abscess CG - 1 (1%).
At 8 (31%) patients with AC in history there were indications moved transmitted genital infections.
АC manifested by pain in the perineum,
dysuria,
leukocyturia and systemic inflammatory reaction.
Digital rectal examination CG was informative in 10 (39%) patients.
Ultrasound CG have a rounded form,
clear contours,
increased sizes (volume CG over 1.5 cm3,
the asymmetry index over 150%),
decreased echogenicity,
homogeneous structure,
high vascular...
Conclusion
Ultrasound CG must be applied in the examination of patients with acute inflammatory diseases of the genital area.
