Spectrum of mullerian duct anomalies (MDA) evaluated using 3-dimensional transvaginal ultrasonography.
Background
The reported prevalence of MDA varies widely in the literature,
ranging from 1%-5% in the general population to 13%-25% among women with recurrent pregnancy loss[1-3].
Clinically diagnosis of MDA is important because these are associated with primary amenorrhea,
infertility,
recurrent miscarriage,
obstretic complications and endometriosis.
It helps in identification of patients at risk of these complications and timely surgical intervention.
Fusion of the mullerian ducts normally occurs between the 6th and 11th weeks of gestation to form the uterus,
fallopian tubes,
cervix,
and proximal two-thirds...
Findings and procedure details
The study was performed over a period of 6 months.
Initially conventional transabdominal and transvaginal ultrasonography was performed.
3-dimensional transvaginal utrasonography was performed using GE voluson 730 expert RIC5 9H transvaginal 4D probe on all cases suspected of MDA on transabdominal / transvaginal ultrasonography.
Volume was obtained using a sweep angle of 90° from one side of uterus to other.
Images were then reconstructed in coronal plane to the uterus using post processing technique.

Conclusion
MDA are complex developmental anomalies that can manifest during routine imaging.
Identification and appropriate classification on imaging are necessary for further management.
3-dimensional transvaginal ultrasonography is optimal and alternate cost effective method to MRI in diagnosing MDA.
