Purpose
Assess Radiographers knowledge about infection prevention and control measurements and evaluate it applicability during clinical practice.
Methods and materials
Self-applied questionnaire about infection prevention and control measurements were applied to 48 radiographers and observational grid were used to record if the infection prevention measurements were applied.
The questionnaire were composted by sociodemographic and infection prevention and control measurementsquestions to evaluate workplace conditions,
radiographers knowledge and in what situations they use gloves.
Efficiency of alcohol based solution and hand scrubbing technique were evaluated with ultraviolet light after procedure of 3 radiological examinations in 20 radiographers.
Results
In this study the sample is represented by 50% of female and 47,9 male radiographers (Fig. 2),
ages between 21 and 61 years old (Fig. 3),
and professional experience between 1 to 29 years (Fig. 4).
Results showed that almost 60% of radiographers have trainning in hospital infection prevention measurements (Fig. 5),
and the same proportion of sample responded to use personal protective equipment,
such as gloves and aprons when necessary (Fig. 6).
The main reason cited by the participants for the use of gloves...
Conclusion
Radiographers were aware of infection control guidelines but several of them failed to apply these procedures during radiological examinations.
Therefore,
radiographers must be given periodic training in infection control procedures,
written protocols and legislation must be outlined to monitor the use of infection control procedures during work and there shoud be a periodic monitoring of practice of infection control procedures by radiographers.
