To show the ultrasonographic measures of abdominal fat (subcutaneous cellular tissue thickness,
preperitoneal fat thickness and intraperitoneal fat thickness) in children aged 6 to 10 years of a public school in the city of São Paulo,
Obesity is defined as excess body fat and not only excess weight ; consequence of a positive energy balance ; and can cause serious health problems for children and adolescents due to the increased risk of cardiovascular disease,
systemic arterial hypertension ,
respiratory diseases (obstructive airways such as asthma and sleep apnea),
orthopedic and postural disorders,
dermatitis and some types of neoplasias; or to become obese adults...
Findings and procedure details
The research was approved by the Ethics and Research Committee of the Santo Amaro University,
whose number is 1,103,468 dated 06/11/2015 and CAAE: 44933915.3.0000.0081. A Form of Assent was signed by the children and the Informed Consent Form,
by the parents and/or legal guardians.
Both terms have been read,
explained and signed by both parties. The children were examined by ultrasonography in dorsal decubitus,
with a linear transducer (6-15MHz) and a convex transducer...
Ultrasonographic findings should be included in the pediatric clinical evaluation,
allowing correlation with anthropometric physical examination data,
being of great value in the evolutionary follow-up of obesity treatments.
