Learning objectives
Over the years,
multiple measurement scales have been developed to evaluate the response to treatment in patients with lymphoma.
The last scales developed are: Lugano (2014) and RECIL (2016) (Fig.
2) classifications.
Throughout this work we willreview the key points of these classifications to evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of each measurement scale.
Background
The main objective of measurement scales to theresponse ofthe treatment is to standardize and simplify the radiological report,
to facilitate the evaluation of lymphomasand the analysis of clinic trials.
These guidelines are used in three key moments of the disease:
1.
Initial staging.
2.
Evaluation during treatment.
3.
Evaluation at the end of the treatment.

Findings and procedure details
When comparing the Lugano and RECIL's classification,
we observe (Fig.
4-7):
-There are non-avid FDG lymphomas (ex: MALT lymphoma) that benefit from RECIL.
-When using the PET-CT as a measurement instrument,
the Lugano classification accurately reports the compromise of the bone marrow.
-The increase in 50% of the product of the diameters of a lesion is equivalent to the increase in approximately 20% of the diameter of the lesion (Fig.
7).
-Tumor growth occurs in two-dimensional direction.
-There are no significant changes in the result...
Conclusion
The new response evaluation criteria (RECIL) produces similar results to those obtained with the Lugano classification,
introducing a new,
more simple and precise method of measurement.
The new category (minor response) will need to be prospectively validated.
RECIL criteria are aligned with RECIST.
Applicable for adults and children with lymphoma.
