Aims and objectives
To evaluate the muscle macroscopically some measurements is important to do,
pennate angle and fascicle length are determinants of muscle strength,
the thickness is important to evaluate state of atrophy or hypertrophy.
The ecogenicithy evaluate the fat infiltration in atrophy situation [1-2].
Statin is the name given to the group of drugs to help to reduce cholesterol levels and more prescribed in the world to preven dyslipidemia [3].
It is well known that statins can promote myopathy which can be slight,
moderate or severe (rhabdomyolysis)....
Methods and materials
The study with a specific was performed in 47 individual age between [50-65] years old,
ultrasound examination were performed to 47 individuals in three different groups – control group,
individuals that intake statins and individual that intake statins and do exercise.
The evaluation of the gastrocnemius muscle was performed bilaterally using a 13Mhz probe three different images acquisitions was done to determinate the dimensions of the pennate angle,
fascicle length and thickness.
A questionnaire and the informed consent term were signed by all individuals.

Differences in dimensions were observed.
Significant differences were obtained for the pennate angle and the fascicle.
The main differences were observer between the control group and experimental groups that intake statins.
Conclusion
Ultrasound has sensitivities and specificities to analyze the muscle tissue macroscopically
Individuals who intake statins have lower values of the evaluated structures
No differences were observed in the echogenicity of muscle tissue
Differences were observed in the pennate angle in both sides in the group that intake statins
The literature is unanimous in stating that individuals who take statins develop muscle changes called myalgia [1-2]
The side effect of statins may increase with exercise [2-3]
