We will demonstrate typical imaging examples and review the imaging characteristics on various modalities.
Background
We present a case-based radiographic review of various benign and malignant lesions which can be found within the humerus.
We present the multi-modality imaging characteristics seen on X-ray,
CT and MRI,
and discuss the pathophysiology behind these lesions.
Findings and procedure details
Enchondroma
Enchondroma is a common benign medullary cartilaginous neoplasm.
These benign lesions are most frequently incidental findings and diagnosed in childhood to early adulthood with a peak incidence at 10 to 30 years.
They account for 3-10% of all bone tumor and 12-24% of benign bone lesions.
Enchondromas can occur in any bone formed from cartilage and are typically located centrally within the medullary cavity of tubular bones,
such as bones of hands and feet,
femur,
