Aims and objectives
According to WHO,
cancer is one of the main causes of morbidity and mortality in the world [1].
Liver malignancies are the sixth most common form of cancer in men and women,
ranking second among the causes of death from malignant neoplasms in the world.
The main contribution to this pathology is made by South-East Asia and southern Africa countries,
where liver malignancies make up more than 40% in the structure of cancer incidence [2].
The use of cryodestruction as an alternative method of treatment...
Methods and materials
During the period of 2012-2017 CD was performedin 59 patients with liver tumors. Dynamic postoperative MRI monitoring was carried out in 15 patients with malignant liver lesions (5 patients with primary liver tumors,
10 - with secondary liver lesions) (Fig.1).
All patients underwent MRI with DWI before surgery and in the postoperative period on the 1st day,
3 months,
6 and 12 months.
All patients were divided into two groups.
The first group (5 out of 15 patients,
33.3%) consisted of patients with adequately performed...
Results
In the area of previously detected formation on the 1 day after CD,
total hemorrhagic saturation and edema were determined.
Edema manifested as an increased signal on T2-weighted images (T2-WI) and a lower signal on T1-weighted images (T1-WI) (fig.3 e,f; fig.4 e,f).
Hemorrhagic changes were determined as marked increase of signal on T1-WI (fig.3 f).
On the 3rd and 6th months,
with adequately performed ablation,
the zone of CD,
according to the literature [4-9],
is a focus of coagulation necrosis,
hyperintensive on T2-WI and hypointensive...
Conclusion
MRI with DWI,
ADC maps allow to assess the completeness of cryodestruction of focal liver lesions in early period,
and to assess the tumor changes in late and remote postoperative periods after cryodestruction.
