Learning objectives
The aim of our study was to demonstrate the capabilities of MDCT and MRI in the visualization of the pathological conditions of the ureters,
with following analysis of the data and establishments diagnosis.
Background
The proportion of patients with pathological conditions of urinary organs is large enough and has no tendency to decrease.
One of the components of the urinary system are the ureters.
Ureter is a paired organ of the urinary system of a person,
which represents tubular fibro-muscular structure between kidneys and bladder.
In various pathological conditions,
a narrowing of the ureters is possible,
which entails dilatation of the urinary collecting system with reduction of renal function and contracting kidneys.
There are numerous pathologies of the ureters:...
Findings and procedure details
In our center were conducted 2315 studies of the urinary system,
1210 of them with contrast enhancement (CE),
and 1105 without CE.
Ureteral pathology was about 25%: abnormalities,
urolithiasis,
inflammatory and oncologic strictures.
The studies were conducted on a 64-slice CT with a slice collimation of 0.625 mm using a multiphase scanning protocol or a split bolus; as well as on multiparameter MRI 1.5T.
For a better filling of the urinary system,
optionally,
hydration preparation is carried out to patients before research: 1 liter of...
Conclusion
The use of post-processing capabilities of CT and MRI in pathology of ureters under the conditions of scanning will always help the radiologist to answer the surgeons questions,
which allows to choose the optimal treatment strategy for the patient.
