Learning objectives
1- Anatomical sum-up about sinonasalcavities and their critical variants.
2- Illustration of some cases of sinonasaltumours and emphasize the complementarity of the CT& MRI couple in the preoperative assessment.
Background
Sinonasal malignant tumours are rare and represent 3% of cancers of the upper aerodigestive tract.
They offer a range of histological types dominated by epithelial tumours.
They develop in confined anatomical spaces,
and come out by mild and non-specific clinical signs, causing a delay of diagnosis.
Thus multi-disciplinary management ofsinonasal tumours is necessary,
starting with a complete clinical assessment combined with an endoscopic study of the nasal cavities and the nasopharynx,
allowing the achievement of biopsies.
Imaging is necessary to guide therapeutic array by highlighting surgical...
Findings and procedure details
I- Anatomicalsum-up about sinonasal cavities:
Although complicated,
adequate knowledge of paranasal sinuses is essential in order to guide functional endoscopic surgery.
CT is the modality of choice in imaging offering multiplanar reconstruction.
It retains a place for pre-surgical morphological assessment as well as for the analysis of bone structures of the facial bone and skull base.
What is the technique of CT?
- Patient in supine position and axial images of the sinuses are acquired with 0.625 collimation and from this raw data sagittal and...
Conclusion
The preoperative workup of sinonasalmalignant tumours is based on the CT - MRI couple,
which are complementary to guide follow-up and therapy.
