Aims and objectives
To prospectively explore the value of T2 mapping in differentiation degree of resectable esophageal cancer (EC).
Methods and materials
Forty-four patients with pathologically proven EC were imaged on a 3T MR scanner before surgery,
including routine sequences and T2 mapping.
T2 values of tumor were measured by 2 independent radiologists with more than 5 years experiences in chest radiology.
The maximum,
minimum and mean values of T2 values were measured and recored on picture archiving and communication system (PACS).Three areas of interest were drawn for each lesion,
and the mean value was taken. The area of interest varies by no more than 3 square millimeters.The...
Results
There were thirty-one men and thirteen women in patients.
The average age is 61.6 ±7.8 (y).
There were six patients in high differentiated group,
twenty-five in moderate differentiated group and thirteen in low differentiated group.
The minimum value of T2 was 88.5±20.6 ms,
maximum value was 132.0±27.2 ms and the mean was 110.4±25.7 ms in all patients.
The minimum value of T2 values was 81.6±23.5 ms,
maximum value was 130.9±22.4 ms and the mean was 103.5±20.3 ms in high differentiated group.
The minimum value of...
Conclusion
T2 values didn’t show the ability in evaluating differentiation degree of EC,
and no correlation between T2 values and the differentiation degree of EC was found.
But,
since the limitedmunber of patients, a further stuy with large scale patients is needed.
