Background/introduction
Acquisition of competences while young,
through formal academic training programmes should have a life-long impact. Action “four” of the Bonn Call for Action is to ‘strengthen radiation protection education (RPE) and training..,’.
Introduction of radiation protection (RP) principals and practices to students while undertaking formal medical and health courses in universities and colleges may be the best way of inculcating a life-long radiation-safety culture in Africa.

Description of activity and work performed
Material and methods: Between September and October 2018,
a 35-question online tool was distributed through "Survey Monkey" electronic program to lecturers teaching RP in AAI.
The target participants were from a database of Lecturers,
Radiologists,
Physicists,
Radiographers and Radiotherapists based on list-serves of AFROSAFE,
PACORI and other imaging societies in Africa.
Emerging data was analysed for descriptive results.
Results: Twenty-seven respondents from 11 of out of the total of 54 African countries were received.
A total of 22 training institutions in Africa completed the survey...
Conclusion and recommendations

Collaboration with RP platforms and organisations was minimal.
Recommendations: Training institutions offer strategic opportunity for impacting RP knowledge and practice-culture.
Strengthening AAI capacity for RPE requires urgent mitigation of these impediments. Training institutions are encouraged to revise their curricular to include RP. Radiologists should take an interest in teaching RP.
Libraries should ensure they have books and other learning materials for...
