Paying attention to different changes in the pelvis during the assessment of prostate gland
Background
Assessing the male pelvis with suspected prostate cancer,
we focus on how to more accurately assess the prostate gland.
We find pathological lesions in prostate and focus on their proper interpretation.Exept the prostate gland and its surrounding,
we usually evaluate local lymph nodes and bones.
We not always are precise enough to notice other pathological changes,
e.g.
in the bladder,
rectum or nearby adipose tissue
Findings and procedure details
Authors reviewed the descriptions of 50 MRI studies of the pelvis with suspected prostate cancer from 2017 and re-examined the examinations looking for other pathological lesions not included in the description.
The studies were planned in a protocol assessing the prostate gland and enabling the abnormalities of patients under the classification PIRADS v2.
The authors found 32 additional pathological changes,
in 4 studies at least 2,
which testifies to the fact thatthe evaluators focus their attention on the assessment od the prostate gland and proper...
Conclusion
When assessing prostate MRI,
more attention should be paid to other possible pathological changes in the pelvis.
Perhaps the PIRADS v2 classification and the scale of its difficulty affect not always satisfactory assessment of other organs of the pelvis
