Learning objectives
OBJECTIVES:
To illustrate and discuss the spectrum of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) pattern recognition of most common and uncommon congenital brain anomalies in fetuses.
Know different clinical scenarios in patients having congenital malformation.
To be familiar with embryology and pathophysiology of anomalies.
To highlight the role of MRI and its dedicated sequences in recognition.
Background
Central nervous system anomalies are one of the most frequently encountered anomalies with an estimated incidence of 1 per 100 births [1].
Congenital anomalies can be broadly categorized into disorders of organogenesis,
histogenesis,
cytogenesis,
disorders of myelination and miscellaneous malformations.
It’s of paramount importance for every pediatric clinician and radiologist to be familiar of imaging patterns of various congenital brain malformation on cross sectional imaging (CT/MRI).
Here we review the presenting features and imaging patterns of common and uncommon anomalies presented to our department.

Findings and procedure details
National Institute of child health (NICH) is a tertiary care center where huge number of patients referred from interior Sindh,
balochistan & beyond border.
Here we are sharing our departmental cases of various brain and spinal anomalies in Pakistani pediatric population presented with fits and delayed milestones.
The diagnosis was formulated on cross sectional imaging (CT/MRI.
These including ventriculomegaly,
abnormalities of corpus callosum,
cortical malformation,
hind brain herniations,
congenital infections,
congenital tumors,
vascular lesions, myelomeningocele and other spine anomalies.
All scans were performed on 0.3...
Conclusion
After reviewing such kind of educational exhibit radiologist must get familiar of various imaging patterns helping in correct diagnosis and narrowing the differentials.
Thus helping the pediatric clinicians to take better decision about the patient’s management as brain tissue is very delicate with lethal consequences once hurted.
