Learning objectives
To present an application developped for android smartphones,
available online,
for free,
for PI-RADS scoring of lesions in prostate multiparametric MRI,
based on the European society of uroradiology (ESUR) 2012 guidelines.
Background
ESUR guidelines for multiparametric prostate MRI have been published in 2012,
and include a PI-RADS classification for structured reporting,
aimed to improve the accuracy and reproductibility of radiologists reports,as well ascommunication with referring physicians.
This standardized approach to report prostate MRIis also needed to conduct diagnostic studies and meta-analysis.However,
lesion scoring requires formation and can be time-consuming in daily practice.
Especially,
the determination of the overall PI-RADS score,
which is linked to the probability of clinically significant cancer,
differs from the sum-score of individual components....
Imaging findings OR Procedure details
1.
Main screen:
- The main screen features the 27 regions standardised prostate reporting scheme(Fig. 1) :
Axial sections represent the prostate base,
midgland and apex subdivised into:
- Posteriorly (p): four regions (mediolobar and lateral).
- Anteriorly: four anterior regions (a) (mediolobar and
lateral)and the anterior stroma region (as).
Extraprostatic involvment is pictured on the coronal,
sagittal and seminal vesicles schemes.
This diagram allows precise localisation of the lesion in the peripheric,
transitionnal or extraprostatic (bladder,
seminal vesicles,
distal sphincter or extracapsular involvment) zone,...
Conclusion
Smartphone applications are useful and simple assisting tools for radiologists indaily practice.
This application is designed to promote the PI-RADS scoring system within the radiologic and urologic communities,
to provide efficiency gains to radiologists in charge of prostate MRI,
and to improve the accuracy of reports.
