Background
Triathlon is a sport that features swimming,
cycling and running.
The first modern triathlon was held in Mission Bay,
San Diego,
California on September 25th,
1974,
with 46 participants.
In recent years there has been massive growth in the sport with thousands of triathletes racing across the world.
Approximately 300,000 athletes in the USA and 160000 athletes in Australia compete in triathlons each year.

217 triathletes on a total of 235 occasions sought medical assistance (n = 322 injuries)
2.3% of the total race starters

Conclusion
CONCLUSION:
The sport of triathlon has grown significantly over the last twenty years.
Running and cycling as well as swimming injuries are seen with an increased frequency compared to single sport injuries,
often having a similar presentation.
Lower extremity injuries are most common sites of injury (especially foot and knee)
Multimodality imaging helps clinicians in management of injured triathletes.
Radiography should initially be performed to diagnose or rule out acute osseous injury,
such as fractures and dislocations.
