Learning objectives
• List and define the most frequent urgency pathologies in the urological consultation and the main differential diagnoses.
• Illustrate with images the main causes of urological urgencies identified in our hospital by ultrasound and tomography.
• Describe the characteristicfindings,
in diagnostic images,
in patients with suspected genitourinary urgency.
Background
The consultations withthe involvement of the urological system are very frequent in the emergency department,
as for example obstructive (lithiasis),
traumatic,
including vascular,
and infections are common in the guards.
(Fig. 1)
Diagnostic images intervene in different stages of the diagnostic process in the emergency room.
In general,
the imaging study begins with renal ultrasound,
widely used in the diagnosis of obstructive or infectious pathology,
which is an acceptable method for an initialevaluation.
However,
in patients with indeterminate results and high clinical suspicion,
for example...
Findings and procedure details
We present different cases of our institution,
which works together with the area of urology where we show some of the most representative cases in our experience and timely help in the diagnosis.
NEPHROLITHIASIS:
It is the presence of stones in the urinary system,
being the main cause of emergency urological visit.
As the first diagnostic method,
ultrasound is used,
which has a high sensitivity of up to 90%,
to detect hydronephrosis and ureteropelvic and ureterovesical junction stones, but it has limitations for visualizing ureteral...
Conclusion
The urological pathology is very broad and should be recognized in the imaging studies for its timely diagnosis.
Ultrasound is used as the first diagnostic method of study and tomography provides great topographic accuracy of lesions and repercussions in adjacent organs.
This work evaluates the two diagnostic methods as complementary aid,
its importance in the approximation and accurate diagnosis,
with key points for the diagnosis; there are many pathologies out of the urinary tract,
we highlight the most common in our hospital.
