Aims and objectives
The aim of this work is to develope the method for assessment of bone mineral density using digital Xray DR data.It was supposed to analyze the data obtained in patients with distal radius fracture (Colles).
We compare the data with other one energy osteodensitometry method (CTosteodensitometry).
Methods and materials
We analyze 180 cases in age range (15 - 90 yo); 105 patients without fractures (60 female,
45 male); 74 patients with fractures: undisplaced fractures 33 patients (19 female,
14 male ); displaced fractures 41 (23 female,
18 male),

Intra and extra articular types are not taken into account due to small groups.
All studies were performed at the digital (DR) X ray system Brivo DR-F (GE,
USA) with flat-panel digital detector with regularly performing the procedure of quality control (QAP),
50 KV,...
Results
A distal radius fracture is a common bone fracture in the forearm.
Every third woman and every 5th man over the age of 50 years have osteoporotic fracture according to the report of the International Osteoporosis Foundation [1].
The most common low-energy fracture is a fracture of the distal forearm (2-3 times more common in women than in men [2]).
The risk of fractures throughout life for women is 16%.
In addition,
the fracture of the distal forearm - the first osteoporotic fracture,
which occurs...
Conclusion
A method for assessment of bone mineral density using DR data only was suggested.
Additional X-ray studies are not required.
Significant differences (p<0,05) in the median values of the parameter Estimated bone minaral density (Es-BMD) determined by DR in the groups of patients without Colles fracture and displased fracture have been demonstrated.
Estimated bone mineral density value is considerably age-dependent both in females and males.
The overall shape of the curves has met with reference curve of CT osteodensitometry.
