The FHUMS automated contour and surface mapping performance testing with a realistic breast phantom and positional changes to simulate clinical conditions, showed an accuracy and precision of less than 4% and 1.4% feasible for clinical applications, respectively. The SBC was slightly overestimated, which can be compensated in real patient applications. The detection and mapping of small surface areas not covered with the ultrasound probe, inside the SBC, can allow the ultrasound user to rescan the missed areas and provide a measure of completeness during the images interpretation. Although this is a small sample size laboratory study, the results are encouraging enough to consider a larger clinical validation study.
