Learning objectives
The purpose of our educational exhibit is to present a new educational method of US MSK-Anatomy using personal portable devices with realtimeUS scan,
digital textbooks and presentations,
directet toResident Physicians,
Young Radiologists and Sonographers.
We think that the use of digital technologies can enhance the interaction of learners in the study of ultrasound technique.
Background
It seems certain that the technology landscape continues to evolve and bring new opportunities for patients,
students,
residents and educators.
With the advent of mobile devices and high-speed internetnetwork,
we will expect more technology in universities and hospitals and more interaction with software and digital contents,
even in the educational field.
Active learning is essential in the knowledge of ultrasound,
a technique that requires excellent manual dexterity in order to obtain useful images from the diagnostic point of view, especially in the musculoskeletal field which also...
Findings and procedure details
We used a custom version of Samsung Smart School educational package,
composed of:
Tablets (one for each attender)
Softwaredesigned to provide teacher to student interaction with a collection of digital contents (lesson presentations,
scientific papers,
3D anatomical models )
USEquipment (Samsung RS80a)with linear probe (7-16MHz),WiFiconnected in real time with attenders and teacher tablets.
HRCamera to film the probe positions and dynamic maneuvers during US examination.
TV screen connected with HR Camera and US Equipment for real-time view.
We prepared and uploaded to our tablets advanced...
Conclusion
Our hospital have a positive learning experience and,
with these digital devices and software,
we noted an increased attention from the attenders and a shorterlearning curve in the practical sessions.
Attenders have shown more confidence in performing dynamic examinations and greater precision in identifying the anatomical landmarksby ultrasound.
We found that this kind of teaching method could have a great impact in the learning of MSK Ultrasound and it should be tested in other anatomical districts.
