Findings and procedure details
We used a custom version of Samsung Smart School educational package,
composed of:
- Tablets (one for each attender)
- Software designed to provide teacher to student interaction with a collection of digital contents (lesson presentations,
scientific papers,
3D anatomical models )
- US Equipment (Samsung RS80a) with linear probe (7-16MHz), WiFi connected in real time with attenders and teacher tablets.
- HR Camera to film the probe positions and dynamic maneuvers during US examination.
- TV screen connected with HR Camera and US Equipment for real-time view.
We prepared and uploaded to our tablets advanced anatomy lessons about shoulder,
knee and ankle with US examination performed in real time by an expert MSK radiologist on a volunteer.
On the same time another radiologist explained the anatomy and the “how-to-do” technique.

thanks to the software installed on the tablet,
the radiologist can highlight the anatomical landmarks directly on the ultrasound image,
allowing a quick and exhaustive explanation.
In the opposite direction the attender can be enabled to highlight with his finger the area of the ultrasound image for which he wants to ask for more explanation,
allowing a better interaction between the teacher and the learner.
High Resolution Camera films the movement of the probe on the study area and the dynamic maneuvers performed for adequate clinical examination: also in this case,
is possible to highlight the video image directly from the tablet.
At the end of each module lesson we created a questionnaire to assess learning,
performed directly on the tablet by each student: On the big screen we projected the cumulative results of the entire classroom,
while on the screen of the individual learner appeared his mistakes.
