Learning objectives
The purpose of this poster is to describe 26 classic signs in radiology (one for each letter of the English alphabet) while providing explanations,
illustrations and differential diagnosis for each of them.
It could be used as a learning tool,
to test your expertise or to review what you already know.
Background
Radiological signs are distinctive patterns,
characteristic of a certain pathology,
usually named after an easily recognizable everyday object.
The recognition of these signs creates an association in our mind between a specific image and a disorder or a group of conditions and allows us to reach the correct diagnosis timely and with higher degree of certainty.
The learning and application of these signs can help understand better and memorize easier the specific characteristics of a variety of diseases.
Findings and procedure details
The authors performed a literature review on the topic of radiological signs,
chose a number of signs,
some of which well-known,
others more obscure,
and then carried out a search through their case archive to find illustrative examples in the various modalities used in radiology.
The authors present each sign next to an annotated image with the specific item that gave the inspiration for its name and discuss the scientific basis behind the characteristic appearance of each case as well as the differential diagnosis.

Conclusion
A great number of pathologic conditions have classic radiologic manifestations that resemble common objects,
which makes them memorable and easy to recognize.
Theknowledge and correct application of these signs can help residents and specialists in the confident interpretation of a radiological study and timely diagnosis of the patient.
