Aims and objectives
Todetermine the accuracy of 2D and 3D Ultrasonography (USG) in the diagnosis of uterine septal anomalies.
Uterine septal anomalies are the most common Müllerian duct anomalies (55%),
which can arise from malformations of the Müllerian developmental process [1].USG plays a vital role in the diagnosis and evaluation of same.

Methods and materials
Aprospective study was performed with 50 consenting women,
referred for an ultrasound exam,
with a history of recurrent first trimester pregnancy loss and / or primary infertility.
Each patient was subjected to a 2D and 3D ultrasound,
performed on a GE Voluson E8.Diagnostic hysteroscopy was performed following the ultrasound.
Data was analyzed and all the findings were clubbed in tabular pattern for the outcome of the result.

Results
Of the 50 patients included,
2D USG revealed 33 cases with a septate uterus (28 with incomplete and 5 with complete septa) whereas 3D USG diagnosed 30 cases to have a uterine septum (25 with incomplete and 5 with complete).
Hysteroscopy confirmed the diagnosis in 28 patients.
Thus,
though both the techniques resulted in 100% sensitivity,
3D USG demonstrated a higher specificity (90.90%) relative to the 77.27% of 2D USG.

Conclusion
Septal anomalies of the uterus form a crucial but neglected subgroup of the conundrum of Mullerian duct anomalies.
The accurate detection of these common yet underdiagnosed anomalies is essential owing to their potential of causing recurrent pregnancy failures.
USG forms the principal line of investigation in these patients owing not only to its real time,
non-ionizing properties but also its high sensitivity and specificity.
