Conclusion
We have illustrated the dynamic shoulder MR procedure and findings in subacromial impingement syndrome patients,
who have been diagnosed on the conventional MR images with full- or partial thickness supraspinatus tears and in patients with supraspinatus tendinopathy.
The biggest reduction of the subacromial space in baseline and during the abduction movement had patients with full-thickness supraspinatus tears.
The DS-MR imaging of patients with supraspinatus tendinopathy gives the most interesting information.
Specifically,
it exposes the relatively constant width or the reduction of the subacromial space in patients with tendinopathy during the movement,
even though there is no advanced stage strutural damage of the tendon visible.
This may help to characterise better patients,
their symptoms and their outcome after physiotherapy.
The latter needs to be evaluated with a scientific study comparing the symptoms and the outcome of patients with tendinopathy,
who have the relative constant width of the subacromial space,
and patients with tendinopathy,
who show reduced width during the abduction movement.
