Background
- Paraduodenal pancreatitis is a term that has been proposed as a global category which includes GP,
cystic dystrophy of the duodenal wall and paraduodenal wall cysts,
because this entities have several features in common
- The proposed mechanisms for development of groove pancreatitis is disruption of the pancreatic secretion through the minor papilla due to a disturbed Santorini duct which may be due to chronic alcohol consumption or pancreatic heterotopia within the duodenum or the minor papilla with leakage of digestive enzymes into the PD groove and subsequent inflammation
- Risk factors: Alcohol abuse (most common)
Peptic ulser disease,
gastric resection,
preexisting cystic or solid mass in the duodenum
