Background
The pain in the left iliac fossa accompanied by fever is a frequent clinical problem originated by processes of varied etiology and prognosis.
The first tendency is to suspect that it is diverticulitis because it is the most frequent pathology that this clinic gives,
but other pathologies must be taken into account.
It is often difficult to arrive at a definitive diagnosis based only on history and clinic tests,
requiring imaging studies in most cases.
Taking into account the anatomical structures located in this area,
we can divide the pathology into four groups: gastrointestinal,
gynecological,
urological and muscular etiology.
Multidetector Computed Tomography (MDCT) with intravenous contrast is the reference image test,
allows a differential diagnosis,
assess the extent of the disease and the presence of complications.
Ultrasound can be used as a first line study,
especially in young patients and when is suspected gynecological pathology.
