Aims and objectives
Acetabular labral tears can not only cause pain in the hip or groin area,
but also result in articular cartilage degeneration and early-onset osteoarthrosis [1].
Early diagnosis andtreatment are important.
MR examination is the preferred imaging method for diagnosing acetabular labral tears,
but preoperative diagnosis with conventional MR is still not satisfying [1].
The diagnostic performance of MR arthrography (MRA) appears to be superior to conventional MR at 3.0T in detecting labral tears [1,2].
The aim of this study was to explore the value of...
Methods and materials
98 patients with hip diseases who underwent both hip MRA and subsequent hip arthroscopy were retrospectively reviewed.
These patients were composed of 47 male and 51 female,
aged between 11 and 64 years old,
with a mean age of 34.2 years old.
Two female patients underwent bilateral hip MRA and arthroscopy,
while the rest patients only accepted unilateral hip MRA and arthroscopy.
A total of 100 hip joints,
including 48 right hip joints and 52 left hip joints were evaluated. MRA images were assessed by...
Results
86 anterior and 37 superior acetabular labral tears,
including 30 stage II and 93 stage III labral tears,
were confirmed by hip arthroscopy(Fig.
1,2).
The results of MRA for diagnosing different regions and Czerny stages of acetabular labral tears were shown in Table 1 and Table 2.
The sensitivity,
specificity,
PPV,
NPV and accuracy of MRA for diagnosing anterior and superior acetabular labral tears were 93.02% and 89.19%,
78.57% and 95.24%,
96.39% and 91.67%,
64.71% and 93.75%,
91.00% and 93.00%,
respectively.

Conclusion
Anterior acetabular labral tears and Czerny stage III tears are more common.
3.0T hip MRA is a reliable imaging modality for diagnosing different regions(anterior and superior labrum) and Czerny stages(stage II and III) of acetabular labral tears.
