Methods and materials
Patient Population: A perspective study of 80 subjects was done with in age group of 40-90 years of age.
This study population comprised of both normal i.e.
subjects without any major illness; and subjects with complaints of memory loss.
Among this population two subsets were made according to the age distribution.
Subset A comprised of subjects between age group of 40-65 years and Subset B comprised of subjects between age group of 65-90.
3D MRI Scan was performed for all the 80 subjects.
Data Acquisition: All the MRI scans were performed on 3 Tesla (Skyra,
Siemens).
Patients were positioned in a 32 channel head coil and in a supine position.
For volumetric analysis 3D T1 MPRAGE with 1mm slice thickness was performed.
Data Analysis: After acquisition of MRI data,
volumetric analysis was performed by trained image analysts.
Volumes of whole brain (WB),
ventricles,
intracranial volume (ICV) and age expected WB atrophy percentage was calculated using Neuroshield.
