Background
Neuro-Behçet’s disease (NBD) is the neurological involvement in Behçet’s disease (BD).
It occurs in 5 to 30% of patients with BD.
It could be either acute or chronic and considered one of the most devastating manifestations of the disease owing to its high morbidities that can lead to permanent deficits or death.
The diagnosis of neurobehcet disease becomes a real challenge when the neurological symptoms are the first presentation of the disease which is the case in 5-10% of patients,
so we need to consider it in the differential diagnosis of inflammatory,
infective,
or demyelinating CNS disorders.
Another diagnostic challenge is that neurological symptoms seen in BD patients are not necessarily due to NBD,
and they could represent primary neurological disorders like migraine,
or adverse effects of treatment of BD,
like secondary infections or malignancy.
