Learning objectives
- To determine the etiology of acute pancreatitis in paediatric age group
- To describe ultrasonography,
computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging findings of acute pancreatitis and compare the diagnostic accuracy of these modalities
- To demonstrate typical imaging features of acute pancreatitis in children and discuss complications of the disease.
- To mention about the commonly used acute pancreatitis staging systems (revised Atlanta Criteria,
Balthazar,
Computed Tomography Severity Index)
Due to low incidence of the disease in paediatric age group,
evaluation of etiology,
radiologic severity,
and to predict the treatment outcome of pancreatitis is challenging.
There are few studies that assess the etiology,
imaging features and complications of acute pancreatitis in paediatric age group in recent years [1-7].
Our aim is to determine the etiology,
clinical findings,
ultrasonography,
computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging features,
and long term complications of acute pancreatitis in a single paediatric tertiary referral hospital.
