The aim of this study is to describe 5 clinical cases of Fournier’s Gangrene and identify the main radiological findings in plain abdominal X-ray, ultrasound and computer tomography (CT), as well as to describe the general differential diagnostic considerations of Fournier’s Gangrene.

Fournier's gangrene (FG) is a rapidly progressive, polymicrobial necrotizing fasciitis (type I) of the perineum, perianal and the genital areas. In this retrospective descriptive study 5 men with an average age of 67 years (range 58-80) were included in the study under the diagnosed of FG in the Hospital de Bellvitge and Hospital Arnau de Vilanova during the year 2019. Microbiologic data, demographics, comorbidities, risk factors, clinical outcomes associated with FG and imaging findings were extracted from their medical records. EPIDEMIOLOGY: The clinical features of the 5 patients included in this study are summarized inTable 1. FG is a rare condition, although its incidence is increasing due to an ageing population and a higher prevalence of diabetes. Most patients described in the literature are men in their sixth and seventh decade, in our study the average age was 67 years (range 58-80). Concomitant illnesses are associated in 90% of the cases, such as diabetes (40-60%) [1] alcoholism, obesity and immune-compromised conditions (HIV, lymphoproliferative disorders, cytotoxic...

The microbiologic data, demographics, comorbidities, outcomes associated with FG as well as imaging findings in our five patients, are in accordance with the literature. Alcoholism is the most prevalent risk factor reported in our descriptive study whereas in the literature is diabetes. However, the small sample size may have influenced the results.
