Background
- A parasite is an organism, that resides in another organism and benefits by deriving nutrients at the host’s expense, occasionally causing illness.
- Earlier parasitosis, was considered to be a disease of only tropical countries but due to the effects of globalization and migration it has now become a case of global concern.
- The clinical manifestations of these diseases are very non-specific and wide ranging, sometimes the disease is localized to a target organ whereas sometimes what you see is a bunch of systemic manifestations.
- The diagnosis of these diseases not only requires a high index of suspicion but also targeted evaluation and assessment for these diseases.
- Knowledge of the spectrum of imaging in parasitic diseases is very important to accurately diagnose and add parasitosis to the differential diagnosis.
