Conclusion
Our study, in agreement with the literature, demonstrated that the radio frequency identification (RFID-M) device contained in Motiva SmoothSilk® implants is compatible with MRI (magnetic field of 1.5T or 3.0T) [1-3].
The magnetic susceptibility artifact produced by the device was present in 100% of the cases and occurred in all MRI sequences, with the artifact volume in T1 being statistically smaller than in T2.
There was no statistically significant difference regarding the volume of the artifacts between the different surgical indications (group A and group B).
The extension of the artifact to the adjacent structures occurred in 100% of cases, being restricted to the anterior chest wall in cases where there was no displacement or rotation < 45º of the implant. In this situation potentially does not limit the evaluation of the breast parenchyma on magnetic resonance imaging.
In our group, there was rotation < 45º in 5/56 (8.9%) cases, with breast tissue extension in 2/56 (3.6%), most in implants with a volume < 250 mL.
There is no significant variation in the absolute volume of the artifact, so its extension and consequent interference in the analysis of the images are related to the implant volume and its displacement.
