Background
CeEC is rare and accounts for approximately 2-10% of all esophageal cancers; however, it is associated with a poor prognosis. The management of CeEC differs from that of other esophageal cancers because CeECs are often locally advanced at the time of diagnosis, infiltrating nearby anatomical structures, including the hypopharynx, laryngeal cartilage, and trachea [1]. It is also important to know whether laryngeal function can be preserved.
Post-treatment recurrence and complications may occur early or late in the course of treatment, requiring prompt evaluation and appropriate...

A. ReviewoftheAnatomyofCervicalEsophagus
1.Anatomical segmentation of cervical esophagus
The upper end of the cervical esophagus is the upper esophageal sphincter (UES), and the lower end is the sternal notch according to AJCC 8th/UICC 8th [2,3] (Fig 1). The location is defined as the cervical esophageal cancer if the epicenter of the tumor begins within the UES and sternal notch.
[Fig 1]
2.Transition from the hypopharynx to the cervical esophagus
The upper part of the cervical esophagus is continuous with the hypopharynx. The lower part of hypopharynx...
Conclusion
Diagnostic radiology plays a major role in the suitable management of CeEC, and familiarity with it can contribute to clinical practice.
