Learning objectives
To review cardiac MR technique: patient positioning, axes and projections
To familiarize with physiology of scar imaging with gadolinium
To review and illustrate basic cardiac MR image acquisition
Background
Cardiac MRI is a well-known method for diagnosing cardiovascular pathology, the state of tissues and structures, for evaluation volumes and function.
The purpose of the cardiac MR is to help in making the correct diagnosis by visualizing the heart and great vessels.
Conducting a cardiac MR in many cases allows to determine the signs of pathology of the myocardium or blood vessels and to determine the correct tactic for the patient and select the necessary treatment.
The diagnostic method based on the use of responses...
Findings and procedure details
1. Patient preparation
Patient preparation consists of two parts:
Patient preparation before the patient arrives at the MRI department.
Patient preparation after the patient arrives at the MRI department
a. Before the patient arrives at the radiology department:
Before cardiac MR procedure, you can take the medication prescribed by the cardiologist.
The last meal should be 3 hours before the study; patient should not drink coffee, strong tea and smoke.
Patient must take all the medical documentation with him: data from previous studies (ultrasound, MRI,...
Conclusion
Cardiac magnetic resonance is a well-known method of diagnosing cardiovascular pathology (especially pathology of myocardium).
Proper preparation of the patient for the examination ensures the safety and good quality of the study. Adherence to the sequence of planning allows for multimodal assessment of cardiac function and morphologic changes in any pathology.
