To describe normal postoperative imaging findings and signs of complications in Total Hip Arthroplasty (THA).
THA is an orthopedic procedure in which the femoral head and cartilage of the acetabulum are surgically excised and replaced by prosthetic components.
With the increasingly older population,
hip replacement has become a common finding in daily medical practice.
The most common indication for THA is osteoarthritis,
but it can also be performed in trauma,
osteonecrosis or hip dysplasia.
The radiography has an important role in the evaluation of hip arthroplasty,
in postoperative assessment and follow-up.

Acetabular and femoral prosthetic components should mimic normal radiographic anatomy.
It is important to perform an initial evaluation to use as reference for comparison in serial studies.
The anteroposterior pelvic radiograph is the best imaging modality to assess de hip arthroplasty.
Alignment and positioning,
bone remodeling and component migration should always be assessed.
Charnley and Gruens zones present an anatomic division to report the location of lucent areas.

Conventional Radiography is a useful tool to evaluation and follow up of THA.
It is important for the radiologist to be familiar with the normal aspects of THA and be aware of signs indicating complications.
