Background/introduction
PET/CT combines the diagnostic benefits of Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and Computed Tomography (CT) equipment,
but could also result to potentially higher radiation exposure of personnel.
Training of personnel on radiation protection in PET/CT departments is of great importance.
The aim of this four-year study is to investigate the effect of training on personnel radiation exposure under the scope of occupational health and safety in PET/CT departments.
In the present investigation,
trainings have been applied in five different facilities namely Sisli Hamidiye Etfal Education and Research Hospital,
Dr.
Lutfi Kirdar Kartal Education and Reseach Hospital,
Erzurum Ataturk University Health Reseach and Training Hospital,
Zonguldak Bulent Ecevit University Health Reseach and Training Hospital in 2015,
2016 and 2017,
respectively.
The main training subjects can be classified as General Rules of Occupational Health and Safety in Nuclear Medicine and Safety Culture,
Emergencies in Radiology and Nuclear Medicine,
Fire and Fire Protection,
The effect of Radiation on Health and Occupational Diseases,
Radiation Safety and Protection Principels.
