Description of activity and work performed
Recently x- ray vendors are answering this dose safety need and are coming out with skin dose measuring systems of various accuracy and functionality
At St George Hospital Sydney we were the first live lab outside Japan to use Canons DTS (dose tracking system).
Where a colour coded biomorphic patient avatar,
displays a live skin dose representation for safety in the sometimes hrs long procedures done at our cardiac interventional reference site,
known for complex procedures.
Each vendors system accuracy is entailed by how well the complex real time calculation of KV,
DAP,
Air Kerma ,added beam filtration ,
SID ,
C- arm angulation and detector entrance dose is correlated.
Also,
most importantly the calculation of Patient density and composition and even table and mattress density.
Our system uses 36 differing BMI sets,
with differing body compositions of male,
female and infant to get an accurate simulation of patient shape and absorption criteria for the skin dose calculation.
Even the scatter bounce back of the muscle layer is correlated.
