Description of activity and work performed
Update 1: To promote free information for all stakeholders, the ICRP has continued to work on ICRPaedia to provide materials regarding ionizing radiation information on medicine and other sources, including a an updated section on medical use of radiation and a comprehensive update on radon and lung cancer exposure risks [BCA Action 9]. We have successfully FREED THE ANNALS with your support so that these publications are free except for the most recent rolling 2 year time. Thank you.
Update 2: To provide guidance on the medical imaging and radiation therapy radiation protection of the PAEDIATRIC patient, committee 3 recently completed Publication 135 (2018) on development, use, and quality assurance issues in DRLs in medical imaging, Publication 139 ‘Occupational radiological protection in interventional procedures’ (2018) which provides practical recommendations and quality assurance for interventional fluoroscopy and cone beam CT, including information for paediatric imaging, and Publication 138 (2017) regarding international ethics of radiological protection. Publication 140 (2019) ‘Radiological Protection in Therapy with Radiopharmaceuticals’
Update 3: Current Task Groups (TG) that address paediatric (and adult) radiation protection include TG 36 on diagnostic nuclear medicine doses, TG 89 on brachytherapy, TG 108 on optimization in radiology, TG 111 individual response to radiation, and TG 109 ethics in medical radiologic protection. This last work will produce teaching scenarios that allow the reader to decide when values might discern a path forward where guidelines or evidence is lacking.
