Conclusion and recommendations
In the SCS we solve the problem of patient identification through a web service that returns a unique identifier (Fig. 3) from any of the local identifiers (e.g Medical history number of each hospital). As for the description of the studies, we have chosen to use the Spanish Medical Radiology Society (Sociedad Española de Radiología (SERAM)) cataloge; SERAM codes are obtained from the HL7 messages that link the RIS report with the PACS images. We consider a hierarchical order in the labelling of the studies in which the RIS occupies the highest position: So that any change that occurs in the labeling of studies in RISCA, from the order to the report, will be automatically transferred to DISCA. Finally, for the description of the series we have decided to concatenate different encoded DICOM tags (body part examined, view position, view code sequence, laterality, irradiation event type, etc.).
