Background/introduction
The European Council Basic Safety Standards Directive (BSSD) 2013/59 Euratomdetails updated legal requirements for radiation protection in departments across Europe. This was transposed in 2018. Compliance with BSSD is now not only good medical practice but also a legal requirement1.

Description of activity and work performed
A 14 question survey was sent via survey monkey to all 116 imaging departments within the Eurosafe network in July 2019. The questions were specifically designed to evaluate the specific aims of the survey and a free text/ comments box was included at the end.
The survey questionnaire was distributed via the ESR office to departments within the ESR Eurosafe Imaging Stars network on 3rdJuly 2019 and closed on the 12thSeptember, following a reminder. The data was returned directly to the ESR office and responses...

A summary of the results is as follows:
Response rate of 41% (47/116). 37 of the departmemts were based in the EU and 10 based outside.
Only 38% of respondents were aware of Esperanto before being sent the survey, and the majority of those (72%), had first heard about it during the ECR 2019 conference.
Most of the departments familiar with Esperanto said it was mostly useful in terms of clinical relevance and usability. 77% of departments report active engagement in audit, but less...
