Background/introduction
The mission of EuroSafe Imaging is to support and strengthen medical radiation protection across Europe following a holistic, inclusive approach.
EuroSafe Imaging aims at improving quality and safety in medical imaging. Part of its mission is to improve information for professionals and patients.
For this purpose, three working groups, each composed of a radiologist, a radiographer and a medical physicist, have been established for the areas ofCT, interventional radiology and paediatric imaging, in what is known as“Ask Eurosafe Imaging”.
Description of activity and work performed
The “Ask Eurosafe Imaging action” started in September 2015 and since then, 32 radiologists, radiographers and medical physicists, from 16 European countries, have produced approximately 50 files of online materials, related to radiation protection issues, in the three areas described above, based on two concepts: (1) Tips & tricks; (2) What Patients Should Know. For the latter, the groups are supported by a patient representative.
Theeducational material is made available for free access athttp://www.eurosafeimaging.org/ask-eurosafe-imaging.
In addition, the educational material is also incorporated into ESR education...
Conclusion and recommendations
Ask Eurosafe Imaging contributes actively to fulfil the “Action 8” of the EuroSafe Imaging Call for Action 2018:“Organise radiation protection training courses and develop e-learning material to promote a safety culture and raise awareness on radiation protection”.
