Background/introduction
Renewal of imaging equipment is one of the necessary tasks for radiology departments in order to be updated in modern radiology practice. Renewal rate and time periods may be changed among imaging equipments. CT technology is ever-changing and radiation dose reduction technologies and facilities are more pronounced in newer CT types of equipments. However, the renewal of CT equipment necessitates a budget that should be spent according to the needs of the department. New CT equipment provides a wide range of facilities including fast acquisition, high-quality images, three dimensional (3-D) reconstructions, whole-body imaging, artifact reduction technologies, etc. One of the most important facilities of new CT equipment is radiation dose reduction techniques.
European Society of Radiology (ESR) published a paper that emphasizes the importance of the renewal of radiology equipment. Renewal of radiology equipments is recommended to be accomplished with the time period of ten year according to ESR’s statement [1]. In this study, we compared two CT types of equipments in our department which were installed in our department in 2008 and 2017, respectively.
