Background/introduction
Radiation safety has been one of the major issues in the management of radiology departments. Thanks to the European Society of Radiology (ESR) Eurosafe Imaging Initiative’s guidance, radiology departments have much homework for the establishment of a radiation safety policy. Description of activity and work performed
We focused on the roadmap of a radiology department in the establishment of a radiation protection program in accordance with guidelines introduced by international societies and initiatives such as the Eurosafe Imaging Campaign. We listed the main steps below which radiology departments should accomplish to overcome the barriers in establishment of a radiation safety policy.

Conclusion and recommendations
Establishment of a radiation safety policy necessitates a well-organized roadmap for radiology departments. Several issues have been defined for radiology departments in order to become a radiation safe department. Updating the department’s conditions with the guidance of well-known radiology communities is very helpful for the objective improvement of a department.
